Dr. Matt Buckman is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Executive Director of the Stress & Trauma Treatment Center. He also serves in various part-time leadership and consultative roles. Dr. Buckman is the PI of the Southern Illinois Resiliency Project at the Center. He is the Co-PI of the IL HEALS (Helping Everyone Access Linked Systems) Demonstration Site Project and Early Childhood System of Care Project under Egyptian Health Department, the Bullying Prevention/Trauma Responsive Schools initiative and the Trauma Based Behavioral Health Fellowship at the Center for Rural Health & Social Services Development within SIU’s School of Medicine, and the Southern Illinois Violence Prevention Project at the Illinois Association of Juvenile Justice Councils.
Throughout his roles, Dr. Buckman provides supervision, consultation, and training as well as direct services to children, teens, young adults, and families to help improve a variety of emotional and behavioral health issues. He has worked in various schools, medical, and clinical settings with a specialization in childhood trauma and certifications in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Managing & Adapting Practices, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, and Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics. He has extensive experience working with victims of abuse and their families as they recover and heal from significant adversities and considers his work in this area to be his calling in life.

Throughout her 10 year career she has worked with children, teens, and families that have experienced crisis, trauma and were victims of abuse. Lindsey has worked on crisis teams for children and youth with emotional and behavioral health issues as well. She is passionate about working with children, youth and families to build resiliency as they heal from trauma.
Lindsey's current role is to provide mental health counseling, substance use counseling, high fidelity wrap around services and intensive case management for youth and their families.
Dhru Mukherjee, Associate Professor and licensed clinical social worker/supervisor (LCSW-S), is recognized for his expertise in preparing mental health workforces to be trauma-informed, with a focus on those serving children, adolescents, and transitional youth. Dhru Mukherjee, Associate Professor and licensed clinical social worker/supervisor (LCSW-S), is recognized for his expertise in preparing mental health workforces to be trauma-informed, with a focus on those serving children, adolescents, and transitional youth. With support from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and other federal funders and private foundations has developed and evaluated multiple trauma-informed training programs targeted at developing clinical skills for rural mental health professionals. In 2014, he founded the Trauma-Based Behavioral Health Fellowship. He has served on the Council of Social Work Education’s National Task Force where he developed a specialized curricular guide for trauma-informed social work practice, and he currently serves on the board of the Stress and Trauma Center.
Dr. Dhru serves children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, and groups with challenges in a variety of areas such as addiction and substance use issues, non-suicidal self-harm behavior, psychological trauma, military/veteran issues, financial stress, teen and adolescent identity/peer pressure issues, and relationship stress . He uses a blend of Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focused, Motivational Interviewing, and Exposure-Based approaches with his clients, and he is certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, and Management and Adaptive Practices (MAP).
Dr. Dhru teaches in the Joint Master of Social Work (JMSW) program at Texas Woman’s University (TWU) and University of North Texas (UNT), as well as in the trauma certificate program at UNT. He holds a visiting position at the Center for Rural Health and Social Development (CRHSD) at Southern Illinois University’s School of Medicine. Patrick received his Master’s in Social Work from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and did his graduate internship for SIUC’s Athletic Department addressing student-athletes’ behavioral health needs. His previous experience includes working with children and adolescents with learning disabilities, ADHD, and diagnosed as being on the Autism Spectrum. Patrick was a part of the SIUC Trauma Fellowship and received training on Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and many other trauma informed topics.
Patrick’s training and experience has centered on addressing the behavioral health needs of children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. Through a holistic approach, Patrick provides services to address a variety of presenting challenges such as; anxiety, depression, PTSD, academic and athletic performance, social skills, and trauma experiences. She graduated in 2008 with a Bachelors of Science in Social Work and started working with the SASS Program at the Community Counseling Center in Alton, Illinois. She also worked with One Hope United as a Functional Family Therapist (FFT) and Children's Home and Aid Society before returning to the area and working with Lutheran Social Services in Mt. Vernon. She obtained a Child Welfare License through the State of Illinois and continued her work at Centerstone and the Nights Shield in West Frankfort. Kyle empowers individuals to overcome obstacles in their life and develop self-efficacy to create a life that is meaningful to them. Using evidenced-based interventions, he has been able to work with clients in a variety of settings to help them achieve their substance use goals. With the Community Action Place, Inc., Kyle provided brief interventions with people who use drugs in an effort to reduce risks surrounding drug use. He worked with clients at a local FQHC who were enrolled in medication-assisted treatment program and provided behavioral health services to clients. He received his Master of Social Work at Southern Illinois University and was a fellow in the 2018-2019 Trauma Based Behavioral Health Fellowship where he received specialized training on trauma and opioid use disorder. He is trained in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Kyle is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in Health Education at SIU where he is researching the intersection of cannabis use disorder and cannabis legalization. His work is built on the underlying philosophy that all clients are experts in their own lives and possess the capability to create change within themselves and their community.
Lauryn Hampton is currently a first year student studying psychology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Kelsey worked as a graduate assistant at The Autism Place (TAP), where she provided both individual ABA and group-based social skills services to children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Additionally, Kelsey has experience in providing comprehensive evaluations for children and adolescents with suspected emotional, behavioral, academic, and cognitive concerns.

Additionally, Asha was the service-coordinator of her university’s training clinic, which provided her with experiences in case management, crisis intervention, and collaboration with other professionals.
Throughout her training, Asha has provided direct services to children, adolescents, young adults, and families in the school, clinical, and community health settings. Melina Cavazos, M.Ed. is a school psychology doctoral candidate from Texas A&M University. She is excited to serve the Eldorado and surrounding communities through her placement at the Stress & Trauma Treatment/Egyptian Public & Mental Health Department; Southeastern Illinois System of Care. This born-and-raised Texan is also looking forward to experiencing all the seasons! Her background in client care includes providing psychoeducational assessment and counseling services in schools, community clinics, private practice, and outpatient psychiatry clinic settings, with clients of varying backgrounds, age groups, and presenting problems. She typically uses an integrative therapeutic approach to best meet the needs of her clients, including cognitive-behavioral, systems, and person-centered. Outside of clinical practice, her dissertation research explores Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP’s) current level of involvement and perceived importance of involvement in their post-secondary transition team in Texas schools. Throughout her 23-year career Karla has worked with teens in a residential setting, assisting with life skills training, trauma, and behavioral challenges. She became a licensed foster parent and fostered children for nearly 11 years leading to adoption. She has experience working with foster/adoptive parents and children in the foster care system or who have been adopted. Karla has experience working with young children through Early Intervention for 12 years, focusing on children with Autism, and received certification in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). She has experience working with children with feeding challenges and received training and certification in the Save Our Ship (SOS) feeding Approach. Karla has experience working with children, as well as the families of children, who have experienced trauma, sensory challenges, and a variety of developmental delays.
Since coming to the Stress and Trauma Therapy Center Karla has taken part and is working with MAP, TF-CBT, and PCIT therapy. Karla has a passion for children who have experienced trauma, and enjoys working with children, families, and adults.
