We are continuing to accept applications for any School Psychology graduate student that is completing practicum or internship requirements in a partnering district, regional safe school, special education alternative school, or other ISBE-approved alternative school setting.

An eligible School Psychologist is defined as a professional starting after January 1, 2026 with an Ed. S., or Ph D degree in School Psychology that provides mental health services including direct School-Based Mental Health Interventions within a partnering district. These professionals must have their Professional Educator License (PEL) in School Psychology or commit to obtaining this within three years of application.
A School Psychology Re-Specialization Professional is defined as a professional enrolling or attending classes after January 1, 2026 that has worked at least one month full-time in a social service or mental health related role prior to starting at a partnering district. The School Psychologist in training must be completing their practicum or internship hours within a partnering district to provide a comprehensive array of mental health services in schools. These professionals must commit to obtaining their Professional Educator License (PEL) within three years of application.
A School Psychology Supervisor is defined as a professional meeting the School Psychologist definition with at least two years of experience and holding a PEL in School Psychology. Eligible supervisors may also hold a license as a Clinical Psychologist.
A School Psychology Mentor is defined as a professional meeting the eligible School Psychologist definition with at least one year of experience and willing to mentor a new professional.
School-Based Mental Health Intervention is defined as teaching a skill or skills that are evidence-based, providing additional structure or predictability, must be over time, and must include consistent data collection for progress monitoring
School-Based Mental Health Service Episode of Care is defined as conducting a comprehensive assessment, providing a mental health diagnosis, creating a treatment plan, and providing direct intervention for students.
The ROE40 Expanding School Psychologist Workforce initiative funded by the US Department of Education emphasizes prioritization of the expansion of School Psychologists within partnering districts. This expansion is emphasized with priority points to increase competitive selection of applicants for these projects.
New School Psychologist position that did not exist prior to 1/1/2026. This new role will expand the number of School Psychologists by one additional provider.
New School Psychologist hired to a position created after 1/1/2026. This also includes hiring for any unfilled positions that were open as of 12/31/2025.
New School Psychologist hired to a position created before 1/1/2026

School Psychologist is from the community of the district (5+ years living in the community)
The ROE40 Expanding School Psychologist Workforce initiative funded by the US Department of Education emphasizes prioritization of specific activities within the role of the School Psychologist. These activities are emphasized with priority points to increase competitive selection of applicants for this project.
Includes Assessment, Diagnosis, and Direct Intervention at Tier II and III.
20+ hours/week of performing direct 1:1 or small group mental health interventions with students

Professional is employed by the school district
Professionals holds a full or provision School Psychology Professional Educator License (PEL)

This series was created to support the provision of mental health services to students within school settings—especially those who are most vulnerable and may not otherwise be able to access services.
