Applicants and districts are eligible to continue to apply for any of the following positions. Although the April 12th due date is over, applicants will be considered on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted
A School-Based Mental Health Professional is defined as a professional starting after August 1, 2023 with a master's degree in psychology, counseling, or social work that provides mental health services including direct School-Based Mental Health Interventions. These professionals must have their Professional Educator License (PEL) or commit to obtaining this within three years of application.
A School-Based Mental Health Re-Specialization Professional is defined as a mental health professional enrolling or attending classes after August 1, 2023 that has worked at least one month full-time in a social service or mental health related role prior to starting at a partnering district. The professional must be completing their practicum or internship hours within a partnering district. This can be practitioners getting training in School Psychology, School Social Work, or School Counseling to provide a comprehensive array of mental health services in schools. These professionals must commit to obtaining their Professional Educator License (PEL) within three years of application.
A School-Based Mental Health Supervisor is defined as a professional meeting the School-Based Mental Health Professional definition with at least two years of experience and holding a PEL in School Social Work, School Psychology, or School Counseling. Eligible supervisors may also hold a license as a Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).
A School-Based Mental Health Mentor is defined as a professional meeting the School-Based Mental Health Professional definition with at least one year of experience and willing to mentor a new professional.
School-Based Mental Health Intervention is defined as teaching a skill or skills that are evidence-based, providing additional structure or predictability, must be over time, and must include consistent data collection for progress monitoring
School-Based Mental Health Service Episode of Care is defined as conducting a comprehensive assessment, providing a mental health diagnosis, creating a treatment plan, and providing direct intervention for students.
The ISBE School-Based Mental Health Projects and US Department of Education guidelines for this funding opportunity emphasize prioritization of the expansion of mental health service providers across Illinois and within partnering districts. This expansion is emphasized with priority points to increase competitive selection of applicants for these projects.
New School-Based Mental Health Professional position that did not exist prior to 8/1/2023. This new role will expand the number of positions for mental health providers by one additional provider.
New School-Based Mental Health Professional provider in a previous position created after 8/1/2023.
New School-Based Mental Health Professional provider in a previous position created before 8/1/2023

Professional reflects an under-represented racial, ethnic, or cultural group that is underrepresented in the mental health profession discipline
Addition of the individual improves the mental health team of professionals' reflection of the racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity of the community

Performing mental health services at the top of their license
20+ hours/week of performing direct 1:1 or small group mental health interventions with students
Note: School-Based Mental Health Intervention is defined as teaching a skill or skills that are evidence-based, providing additional structure or predictability, must be over time, and must include consistent data collection for progress monitoring
Professional is employed by the school district
Professionals holds a full or provision Professional Educator License (PEL)
